Mining and Combat Guide

Mining is a core progression system in Coral Island, providing ores for tool upgrades, gems for offerings, and resources for farm buildings.

The cave system:

• The main cave is located in the mountain area of the map.
• Floors are procedurally generated and reset when you leave.
• Deeper floors have rarer ores and tougher monsters.
• Elevator checkpoints unlock as you descend, letting you skip cleared floors.

Tool upgrades for mining:

Mining tool upgrades follow the same kelp-based upgrade path as fishing tools:

• Bronze: 2,000g + 5 Bronze Kelp Essence + 20 Wood (2 days)
• Silver: 5,000g + 5 Silver Kelp Essence + 20 Wood (2 days)
• Gold: 10,000g + 5 Gold Kelp Essence + 5 Hardwood (2 days)
• Osmium: 15,000g + 5 Osmium Kelp + 20 Hardwood (4 days)

Upgrading your axe is particularly impactful — a Bronze Axe or higher can chop trees for fruit that restores energy, effectively making logging self-sustaining. The axe also drops tree nuts that can be cooked into energy-restoring meals.

Ore tiers by depth:

• Shallow floors: Copper ore, common stones
• Mid floors: Silver ore, iron ore, gems
• Deep floors: Gold ore, rare gems, special minerals
• Deepest floors: Osmium-tier ores and unique resources

Combat basics:

• Monsters guard rare resources deeper in the cave.
• Bring a weapon — swords and similar tools are found or crafted.
• Health management is critical. Bring restorative food.
• Monster difficulty scales with depth.
• Defeating monsters may drop crafting materials and gems.

Mining tips:

• Upgrade your axe first — it enables sustainable energy management through tree-felling.
• Upgrade your pickaxe second — it determines mining speed and ore quality.
• Bring plenty of food for energy and health restoration.
• Use the elevator to skip to your deepest unlocked floor.
• Prioritise ores needed for your next tool upgrade.
• Gems are needed for Lake Temple offerings and can be gifted to residents.
